Dram Loch emerged from the rough, untamed beauty of Scotland’s natural nature, lit by ancient hills and murmurs of forgotten stories. Our storyline originates from the very foundation of the land, full of history, character, and tradition, and it goes beyond the simple act of producing whisky.
Inspired by Legends
The distillery Dram Loch was founded by a visionary artisan whose family was steeped in the age-old technique of whisky making, and it is situated in the middle of Scotland’s lush, rolling hills. The name itself “Dram Loch” pays homage to the immaculate loch at the edge of the estate, which is cherished by the locals for its glistening waters, which are said to have been blessed in the past by the druid Aiden.
Urged by stories of Aiden’s bounties and the bountiful lands of his forefathers, they set out to distil whisky and the spirit of the land’s heritage. Against the backdrop of the rolling Scottish landscape, they harnessed the purest waters and the best, home-grown barley to produce a whisky that went beyond ordinary drink, becoming an expression for the land’s spirit.
A Voyage of Elements, Craft, and Tradition
Starting deep in Scotland’s historic Caledonian Forests, Dram Loch undertakes a journey spanning generations and nations. Here we pick only the best oak, which has a strong personality and imparts unmatched richness to our whisky. After serving as protectors of the Scottish wilderness for a period of up to two years, these oak trees are carefully chopped down, with their staves fashioned and allowed to air-dry and mature.
Through careful preparation, every stave is guaranteed to capture the essence of the land and be prepared for its next phase. The wood next makes its way to our well-established cooperages, where it is skillfully turned into barrels that are individually a tribute to the ancestors’ expertise in cooperage. These barrels are seasoned with special sherry before their voyage comes to an end at Dram Loch, imparting upon them rich, subtle flavors.
That’s when they cradle our precious ‘new make’ spirit and begin a new chapter in their illustrious journey. This beautiful fusion of distance, time, and experience perfectly captures Dram Loch’s dedication to producing a whisky that is as flavorful and rich in history as it is.
